As a photographer, you are required to wear many hats. One of those many hats is being a creative director! During a shoot, I’ll direct and prompt my clients on which poses or actions to do. So many clients are nervous that they’ll have to pose themselves but that’s why I’m here! Many factors go into posing a couple such as location, outfits, height differences, etc… I make sure to always do a little research prior to an engagement shoot for pose inspiration that resembles the couple I’m about to shoot as well as their vibe and location. Now that I have more of an established style I have some favorite poses that are go-to’s during an engagement session because they usually always look good on my couples.

Here are my top 3 favorite engagement poses

1. Dip + Kiss Combo
2. Bear Hug
3. Intimate Embrace

Dip + Kiss Combo

I love a good dip moment! It creates movement within the image while looking very intimate and romantic. My favorite way to capture this pose is shooting farther back having the subject smaller and larger environment.

Bear Hug

I will tell my clients to attack bear hug each other to create movement and genuine laughter. This is a good pose/prompt to create a playfully intimate image. I like to shoot this pose by counting down the couple and then following them as they move forward or side to side. I like when there is a slight blur from all the movement resulting in a more raw and vintage look.

Intimate Embrace

An easy pose where you can play with many different angles, depths, and light is the intimate embrace facing each other. I LOVE to use this one in gorgeous environments and using a sun flare where the couple is silhouetted. In this pose, I love to use symmetry or to showcase the surrounding environment. This is another pose where I like to have a small subject and a large environment.
