One of my favorite finds, when I was scouting for a location for a portrait photoshoot last year, was Home Studio List.
I stumbled across this awesome resource when I was researching photography studios to rent in my area. For this exact shoot, this find was perfect as it was for a group of Omaha-based realtors.
We wanted to shoot in one of their client’s homes but the options at the time were either not working with our schedules or, to be completely honest, they were not aesthetically as pleasing as we liked. This is when Home Studio List saved the day.
Home Studio List is like Airbnb for photographers. You are able to rent out stylized homes for a certain amount of time for photoshoots. This resource is game-changing as it is great for in-home family shoots, realtors and agents, business lifestyle shoots, influencers/bloggers, and boudoirs (not an option for some homes). I could even see chefs or food bloggers utilizing a beautiful kitchen space for a photoshoot. The idea list is endless!
This is different from renting out a photo studio space because it is a whole decorated and furnished home so you are getting that “I’m at home” feel. You are able to specify which rooms you will want to shoot in and outdoor spaces usually are available too. The home I rented for my realtor shoot was in the country so we were able to get some green, nature shots in. It felt like we got two different shoots in one hour!
Home Studio List is nationwide. You are able to find available homes to shoot in almost all major cities. I was shocked to have multiple options right here in Omaha, NE. Nebraska now has six options, all within the Omaha area and one in Fremont as opposed to only three options when I booked last year.
The best part is that they all have different aesthetics. I sent the list of homes to my client so she could pick out her vibe and I booked. It was so easy. Plus the host was amazing, accommodating, and friendly, and was out of the home while we shot. When I say it’s a photographer’s Airbnb I’m not joking!
The pricing varies between homes and goes by the hour but is always quite reasonable, especially when you remember you are renting a whole home rather than a studio space.
I included Home Studio List in my list of Cold Weather Photoshoot Location Ideas a while back and as we approach warmer weather, Home Studio List is going to be another great option for when it’s TOO HOT to shoot outside.
Since I do not have my own studio I am forced to be an outdoor/on-location photographer. The option of being able to easily rent a private home not only brings options to my location’s list but peace of mind when I know I need an indoor location. Trust me, as a photographer, sometimes finding an indoor, WELL-LIT, space is the greatest battle. Seeing that these homes have great natural lighting situations is the icing on the cake.
